Jobs for Tennesseans: Still My Top Priority

Apr 7, 2012
Weekly Updates

This past week, I had many events and met with folks from all over West Tennessee.  The one thing I hear from everyone is:  We need to fix the economy and bring jobs to Tennessee.

On Tuesday, I participated in a business roundtable in Jackson. It was insightful to learn from small business owners and industry leaders about ways to improve business and get government regulations out of the way.

On Wednesday, I had the privilege of meeting with folks in Tipton County where I spoke with local business leaders about the economy, energy concerns, tax policy, and workforce development.

I also toured the Komatsu plant in Ripley, Tennessee.  Komatsu manufactures mining and construction equipment.  We discussed the importance of being able to ship products in and out in a cost effective manner.  About two million products are produced from Komatsu each year.  As such, Komatsu like many other companies are directly impacted by rising gas prices and the struggle to keep costs low for consumers.

On Thursday, we had a business roundtable in Dyersburg. Local business owners and leaders in the community shared with me their concerns about government regulations and gas prices as well as improvements to the Port at Cates Landing

Also on Thursday my bill, H.R. 3606, the base bill for the JOBS Act was signed into law by the President. I am pleased that this bill was able to make it all the way  to the desk of the President signifying that reducing regulations and helping small business are priorities for all Americans.
