Incredible: Five Years, No Action
I find it incredible that undocumented workers collected $4.2 billion last year under the Additional Child Tax Credit, a refundable credit meant for working families. This is up from almost $1 billion FIVE years ago, according to a new audit. The most incredible part is that it has been going on FIVE years without the IRS or the Federal government doing anything to stop it! In an effort to halt this abuse, last week, I signed on as a cosponsor of H.R. 1956, the Refundable Child Tax Credit Eligibility Verification Reform Act. This bill will require recipients of the refundable portion of the child tax credit to provide a social security number in order to claim the credit. If people are not working legally and paying into the system, it just doesn’t make sense that they should receive a tax refund.
