Washington, D.C. – Congressman Stephen Fincher (R-Frog Jump) today issued the following statement on President Obama's budget proposal for Fiscal Year 2014:
“Today marks the fourth time in five years that President Obama has submitted a budget to Congress after it was due. Unfortunately, it only grows the government, not the economy.
“We need a plan that shows America is “OPEN FOR BUSINESS.” That provides for sustainable cuts and realistic reforms that will create a healthier economy, more jobs and put more money in Americans’ pockets. We need tough, bold leadership to put our country back on track. Unfortunately, the President’s budget fails to deliver.”
“Once you get past all the showboating, the President’s budget adds $8.2 trillion in new debt and $1.1 trillion in new taxes. It doesn’t even attempt to balance the budget. He’s taking America down an incredibly dangerous path. Wages are stagnant, our poverty levels are increasing and opportunities are few and far between. We need to change directions.
“Taxpayers have told us loud and clear that our nation’s record-level debt is unacceptable and have demanded that we get our fiscal house in order. I remain committed to these goals and will continue the fight to restore accountability and fiscal responsibility to Washington.”
Federal law stipulates that the budget is to be released no later than the first Monday in February. President Obama released his today, 65 days after the deadline.
