Jackson, Tenn. – U.S. Representative Stephen Fincher is accepting applications from students in Tennessee’s 8th Congressional District between the ages of 17-23, are unmarried and who believe they have what it takes to succeed at one of the United States Service Academies.
“I have the distinct privilege to nominate exceptional young men and women from the 8th Congressional District in Tennessee State to the U.S. military academies,” Fincher said. “Those receiving nominations and appointments to the service academies must exhibit strength in character, academics, leadership, physical aptitude, medical fitness and motivation.”
A limited number of Tennesseans will be nominated to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y. The honor of attending a service academy comes with an obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.
“There is no greater honor for an American citizen than to wear a uniform in service to the United States. I encourage all interested candidates to consider applying for a nomination.”
